The Lower Windsor Area Historical
Society
The Lower Windsor Area Historical
Society was incorporated in 2007. Our mission is to collect,
preserve, and document the historical and cultural heritage of our area.
One ongoing project has been the gathering of oral histories from residents
of our area who have shared their own memories and those of their parents
and grandparents. So much of our local history has not been recorded, but
exists in people's memories. History is not only the past; it is also the
lives and deeds of ourselves, and of our parents and grandparents and of
their families. To lose this information is to lose an important asset. If
anyone is willing to share memories and stories about people, places and
events in our area please contact us at
info@lowerwindsor-area.org,
or at P.O. Box 252, Craley, PA 17312 or 246-8735.
Another current project is preservation and maintenance of the Martinsville
Schoolhouse which stands to the left of the Municipal Building. Last fall
work was begun on the exterior woodwork – scraping, sanding, and priming –
and progress has been made. The schoolhouse now has a new door – drive past
and see it! - and glass in the transom windows has been replaced. When it’s
a little warmer repointing of the building will get underway
The volunteer workforce will also be back in action; anyone who would care
to help for a few hours on a Saturday morning can reach us at the addresses
shown above. You'll be in good company!
Eastern York Dollars
For Scholars
Eastern York Dollars for Scholars, a
non-profit organization, supports students in the Eastern York School
District who will be participating in post-secondary education.
The fourth annual Eastern York Dollars for Scholars Golf Tournament will be
held on Saturday, October 4, at Groff’s Farm Golf Club (650 Pinkerton Rd,
Mt. Joy) with a 12:30 PM shotgun start. The $260 foursome fee includes
greens fee and cart, dinner banquet, and many door prizes. Local business
sponsorships are also being sought.
Contact Doug Riley at 717-246-9135 for registration information no later
than September 26. All funds raised through the tournament go directly to
the awarding of student scholarships. Your participation will help us
continue to provide scholarships, at the same level, or greater than we have
in previous years.
Employment Opportunities
College Internships and Practicum’s are available throughout
the year. For more details, contact Melanie Miller at (717) 246-8155 or
